Der Dodekanes ist eine Inselgruppe im südlichen Teil der Ägäis und die meisten von ihnen liegen näher an der Türkei als an Griechenland. Der Name bedeutet wörtlich zwölf Inseln, da die Gruppe aus 12 größeren und 150 kleineren Inseln besteht.
Die 12 größeren Inseln sind: Astypalea, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Kasos, Kos, Leros, Nisyros, Patmos, Rhodos, Symi, Tilos und Kastellorizo, von denen nur 3 bei Touristen beliebt sind: Rhodos, Kos und Patmos.
